I've wanted to work with words as long as I can remember; my first book, The Unicorn, was written, illustrated, and released in a limited edition of one (in hand-cut and stapled copy paper) when I was seven. A rather severe English teacher (who taught me for six years of middle and high school because it was a small town) gave me a more-comprehensive-than-most understanding of the technical aspects of the English language.
After that, I spent over twenty years as a veterinary technician while writing on the side. During that time, I met and worked with several authors on an informal basis to proofread their manuscripts before publication.
Eventually I decided to pivot back into the wordsmithing profession and took courses in proofreading and editing. Since then, I've worked with Proofed, a worldwide editing and proofreading agency, on several teams, working on everything from medical research papers to serial drama scripts to comic book proofs for a major comics publisher. I'm also a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association.
I'm a consummate geek (yes, I attend sci-fi cons regularly), but that doesn't mean science fiction and fantasy are all I do. I love any type of fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, and research studies. Whatever form your words take, I'll polish them until they shine.
